Porn Addiction – What it costs you and how to overcome it (guest post)

Learning about the hidden costs that consuming pornography has over your love life can help you take your entire life to a new level, but it will only happen if you are also willing to use the tools that I’ll offer you here to beat this addiction once and for all.

Pornography has a very elusive definition because for some men porn is a “hardcore video” of people having sexual intercourse, while for other men pornography can be a simple photo of a beautiful girl in a bikini.

That is why I would like first to define what is pornography anyway, and my definition is the following:

“Pornography is any media (video or picture) that a man masturbates to or would masturbate to if the option is given.”

In other words, porn is a kind of it a synthetic digital replacement for real sexual stimulation and sexual attraction, and when you masturbate in front of the computer, it’s as if you are making love to your computer.

And now that we covered what porn is let’s understand why it’s so addictive and why no one is talking about this addiction that is now effecting countless of men from all over the world.

The key to understanding the addictive nature of this sexually arousing media is first to understand the biases of out human brain.

The brain has two qualities about it that make this addiction a bit stronger than other addictions.

Firstly, the brain loves sex, and at the same time it likes to avoid risk (aka survival and reproduction), and approaching a girl you don’t know can be perceived as a risky activity.

That is because our brains still think they live in a tribe of 250 people more or less, but that is just another illusion that makes the brain more likely to want to consume porn (more on that some other time).

Based on the theory of evolutionary phycology, the human brain evolved in small tribes of about 250 people, and in such a small tribe a rejection from a girl can sabotage your reproduction with the other girls in the tribe.

On top of that, approaching a girl that is already in a relationship with the Alpha male of the tribe can risk your survival.

So needless to say it’s a bit risky to approach a girl, but porn removes the risk and still provides you with unlimited options to feel like you are reproducing with the best looking girls in the tribe risk-free.

Add to it the removal of the risk of being killed or rejected, and you have yourself a winning recipe for a habit that the brain rewards with the best chemicals in nature.

Secondly, our brain is lazy, and it loves to get the most from doing the least.

So why should you even go out and be brave and face the emotional baggage of some woman during dating if you can just get the same sexual satisfaction by clicking the mouse?!

Add to all this the fact that any men with an internet connection can now consume an unlimited amount of this media for free, and you have yourself a more powerful addiction than the addictions that are caused by “other drugs” that cost money or require you to walk and stand up.

And now that you understand why porn is so addictive, and before I give you the tools to overcome this addiction, I first want to reinforce your motivation to change this destructive habit by presenting to you the hidden costs of masturbating to free porn.

  • Energy Killer – Ejaculation is a very wasteful process in terms of energy, and when you ejaculate many times a day on your keyboard, you waste a lot of valuable sexual energy that you could have leveraged to other things.
  • Time Killer – Many men that are addicted to porn waste on average an entire hour consuming porn each day, that is 365 hours a year which are 15 days, and that means that half a month each year is wasted.
  • Promotes PE – Not too many men know, but masturbating to porn also makes it harder to last in bed for a long time when you are with a real woman, and that leads to embracing premature ejaculation events that any man would like to avoid.
  • Lowers EQ – Maybe the most apparent physical effect of this habit is how it affects your erection quality, for many reasons, consuming porn make the erections of many guys softer.
  • Worse Lover – Combine PE with lower EQ, and you are already a worse lover to any woman, but porn also gives you a wrong idea of what women want in bed.

There are few more hidden costs to free porn, but I think those five are enough for you to want to change this habit in your life.

How to overcome this addiction?

Well… You can just stop doing it now and never do it again!

But this tactic does not work from most men, and most men need to take it in steps and do it gradually.

So here are some of the tools, tips, and mindsets that I found to help men to change this habit and live a better life:

Block sites that you are addicted to:

Block: Regardless if you use a PC or MAC, you can go to your host files and block there the websites that you are addicted to, this will break some of the addiction because it will push you to find new sources of softer erotic media (Google: how to block sites on PC/Mac).

Soften: If you are addicted to videos try to move to non-nude images and use your imagination more, it’s much more healthy and it’s easier to break an addiction to pictures of hot girls in a biking much more that it is to break an addiction to hard core videos of porn.

Lowering frequency: If you are used to consume porn each day, and you tried to quit and after just one week you broke it does not mean that you failed.

It means that you succeeded to lower the frequency of use from once a day to once a week, and that is a big success, especially if you keep on lowering the consumption frequency from there on forward.

There are more useful tips that you can read all over the internet on how to overcome this addiction, but I think that they best way is to understand the costs and see in your minds-eye how a life without paying those costs will look like.

Take one hidden cost that you think is the biggest and try to imagine a life without paying it, and see how your entire reality will become much better.

Just imagine a life where you have much more free energy to focus on your success, another 365 bonus hours each year to invest in what you want, a good strong erection with more control over your ejaculation combined with being the better lover that you can be.

I think that this new reality is much better than the reality you live in now, and the only cost of sliding to this new reality is to stop consuming porn, isn’t it right?

So I wish you the best of luck with any choice that you make today, and if you want to learn more about how to master your sexuality as a man I invite you to visit my website and ask my any question that you have in mind of this topic.
